Greensburg traffic stop leads to unfounded rumors 

Local police worked with Ohio detectives to find vehicle

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The rumors of an active shooter in Greensburg were not true on Wednesday. 


Numerous Facebook posts alleged there was an incident that occurred at the Speedway on Lincoln Street. 


Authorities have confirmed that police presence was due to a traffic stop. 


Local police were contacted regarding a vehicle that was used in connection to a crime in Ohio. The Ohio authorities said the car was last seen Wednesday morning. 


A Greensburg officer located the car and eventually pulled it over at the Speedway parking lot.  to say that a vehicle used in connection to a crime 


The occupants of the car were transported to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department for questioning by the Ohio detectives.


Police collected some evidence at the scene and said there was no arrest made in connection to the traffic stop. 


“This type of cooperation is indicative of the officers of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department and the Greensburg Police Department, as well as law enforcement agencies across the nation,” Greensburg Police Chief Mike McNealy said.


Due to the rumors of an active shooting, Greensburg Schools did go on a brief “secure” lockdown out of abundance of caution.  


“Your local police agencies are most interested in protecting the entire public and encourage you to look for information from trusted news outlets or directly from the agency,” McNealy said.
