Greensburg woman in need of kidney transplant

Hoping to match with the right person

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg woman is in need of a lifesaving donation.

Brenda Lowe is hoping to match with someone for a kidney transplant.

Lowe has an inherited disorder known as Polycystic kidney disease, however, the symptoms don’t usually appear until later in life.

She is now 75-years-old and has been on a yearslong quest to find a healthy, younger person who shares her blood type, which is O Positive.

Brenda added that the donor will not have any out-of-pocket cost for testing or surgery.

Despite her kidney functioning at just 8 percent, she is surprising doctors with how healthy she is. She attributes that to her faith and God's plan for her.

Quilting is one of her hobbies and she recently sewed a special quilt. Her goal was to give it to her eventual donor, however, decided to donate it to an event at Good Shepard Christian Academy in September.

The quilt auctioned for $2,600 and the person who bought the quilt surprised Lowe, by giving it back to her and asking Brenda to make sure she gives it to her future donor.

Brenda spent nearly 30 years working at Lowe’s Pellets & Grain in Greensburg and now works part-time at First Baptist Church in Greensburg.
