History In The 812: Joe ‘Butcher Boy’ Benz

Played for the White Sox between 1911-1919

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – History In The 812 host John Pratt travels to Batesville to spotlight the life of Joe Benz.

The New Alsace native  played for the Chicago White Sox from 1911-1919 and even pitched a rare no-hitter in 1914.

Benz spent the offseason in Batesville working in his family’s meat-cutting business, a matter that, once discovered by the Chicago media, earned him the nickname “Butcher Boy Benz".
