Hoeing, Britton see action in first Spring Training games

Hoeing strikes out Cardinals star player

(JUPITER, Fla.) – Two Batesville High School graduates took part in their respective teams' inaugural spring training games on Saturday.

Marlins pitcher Bryan Hoeing is hoping to secure a spot on the pitching staff ahead of Opening Day.

Hoeing pitched two innings giving up two hits and three strikeouts against St. Louis in Jupiter, Florida.

One of his strikeouts was against Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

On the other side of the state, the Toronto Blue Jays were playing the Philadelphia Phillies in their first spring training game.

Batesville native Zach Britton was brought into the game as a pinch runner for Justin Turner of the Blue Jays.

Britton went 1-3 and scored two runs. After missing most of last year due to injury, Zach is a non-roster invitee to Blue Jays camp and the former catcher is listed as a left fielder for the organization.
