How Hurricane Helene could impact Southeast Indiana

Updated: Sep 26

Weather Wave's Chad Gutzwiller provides forecast

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – The fast-moving Hurricane Helene could be upgraded to a Category 4 storm before it reaches Florida’s coast on Thursday evening.

Forecasters are warning about a life-threatening storm surge along the coast, with flooding, heavy rain, wind and tornadoes possible in the southern United States as a result.

The 812’s partner weather forecaster is Chad Gutzwiller with Weather Wave.

Gutzwiller is sharing some insights on how Helene could impact us here in Southeast Indiana.

He did add that the below information is initial forecasting and he provide more insights when Helene makes landfall.

Rain will move into our area tonight and through Friday, with heavy downpours at times.

Winds will pick up and gusty up to 40-50+m.p.h. There may be some sporadic power outage.

Gutzwiller says he won’t be surprised if some local football games and other evening activities are impacted as a result.

“There may be a lull late Friday night into early Saturday before picking back up again in the afternoon and evening,” Gutzwiller said.

He expects more rain Sunday and Monday with the average rainfall totals somewhere between 1.5” and 3.5”.

He said the storm is rapidly intensifying as of Thursday afternoon. You can follow Chad and the locally-based Weather Wave 2.0 by clicking here.
