Inaugural Raver Relays on April 6

Honors legendary Batesville teacher, coach

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Anyone who went to Batesville High School should know the name Ron Raver.

Ron started teaching at Batesville in 1968 and was a longtime cross country, track and basketball coach.

He also hosted Coaches Corner and did sports play-by-play on WRBI. He passed away in February 2022.

To honor his legacy, the Batesville High School Track and Field will be holding its inaugural Raver Relays at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6.

This will be a little different than a regular meet as most events will be relay-style. Awards will

be given to the top teams immediately following the completion of each event.

“We will also be recognizing one manager from each team to get a special award. Coach Raver was a man with disabilities who had a lot of perseverance and dedication to the sport he was coaching,” organizers said.

Because of his disabilities, one of the most important positions on his team was that of

manager! His managers had to be on time, organized, able to anticipate what would be

needed, and carry out the responsibilities that Coach Raver could not do himself.

Organizers hope to see a big crowd come cheer on the athletes and honor Coach Raver.

If you would like to sponsor a relay or help in any manner, please reach out to Coach Lisa Gausman at lgausman@batesville.k12.in.com.

All profits from this event will go to the Ron Raver Scholarship Fund and Batesville High School Track and Field Program.
