Dr. Jenner says local parents should feel grateful
(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- Indiana's Secretary of Education was in Southeast Indiana on Tuesday.
Dr. Katie Jenner made the visit following local third grade iRead test results that are exceeding the state average for reading proficiency.
Dr. Jenner's first visit was to Manchester Elementary which has a 95.2 percent iRead passing rate.
She also visited the Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation which has a 93.2 proficiency score.
While at Central Elementary, she was introduced to Lawrenceburg's Dual Language Immersion Program where students are taught 50% of the day in Spanish and 50% of the day in English. The program starts in kindergarten and has reached fifth grade. It will expand a grade level each year.
Dr. Jenner also stopped by Sunman Dearborn School and Switzerland County Schools on Tuesday.
