Investigators find tractor stolen from St. Mary’s area

Deputies recover tractor after months of investigation

(ST. MARY’S Ind.) – A Franklin County farmer had a tractor stolen from his property in the St. Mary’s area this past July.

He contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office who conducted a months-long investigation searching for the tractor.

Chief Deputy Greg Mehlbauer says the first break in the case occurred when they received a report of a burglary-in-progress in the far eastern part of the county.

Mehlbauer says the homeowner chased the burglary suspect from their property and eventually into Butler County, Ohio.

Ohio authorities were able to locate the suspected vehicle and it led to a police pursuit. However, the driver was able to elude police at the time.

A few weeks later, another pursuit took place between the alleged burglar and Butler County authorities.

It led to the arrest of 36-year-old Westin Mosley, of Hamilton.

Investigators later learned that Mosley is connected to a property in Fayette County that allegedly had numerous stolen items.

Franklin County deputies went to that property and found the tractor that had been missing for a few months. It was confirmed that it was the tractor taken from the St. Mary's area.

“It was fantastic how this all came together. This investigation is a great example of how multiple agencies, including those out-of-state, work side-by-side when dealing with crimes and other investigations of all types, including stolen property,” Chief Deputy Mehlbauer said.

Mosley remains behind bars in Butler County facing counts including theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drugs.
