Jack-O-Lantern display near St. Mary’s honors Jansing this week

Nighttime drive in Franklin County

(PENNTOWN, Ind.) – If you like a country cruise that includes a Halloween theme, it is well worth the trip out to the area of St. Mary’s area of Franklin County this week.

There is a Jack-O-Lantern display at night in memory of Roger Jansing.

Halloween was one of Roger’s favorite holidays and he and his family always tried to do something fun

“We would do haunted hay rides and it would be him and I doing the props and we’d be running from one scene to the other,” his sister, Sandy, reminisced.

Unfortunately, Roger passed away from a seven-year cancer battle in May of 2020, during the height of COVID.

Sandy wanted to keep the tradition going but had to take COVID protocols into consideration.

She decided to host a drive-by Jack-O-Lantern display at the family home which is located at 15080 Pine Road in Brookville.

It has become an annual tradition as even some St. Peter’s parishioners help carve the pumpkins.

You’re encouraged to drive by the property any night this week and it is all for free, and a way to remember Roger.

If you pull on Pine Road from Horseshoe Bend, be sure to keep traveling onto Rosfeld Road, as Jerry Back has a large Halloween display as well!

On a side note, the Jansing family is seeking more people to help with carving pumpkins next year. Reach out to The 812 if your group would like to get involved!

Here are some photos from the display!
