Lawrenceburg mother accused in death of infant

Phillips was arrested Tuesday

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A 22-year-old mother is behind bars after her infant passed away.

Raleigh Phillips, of Lawrenceburg, is accused of Neglect of a Dependent and Reckless Homicide.

First responders went to an apartment on March 3 for a report of an unconscious infant. The baby was later transported to the hospital where it was determined to be deceased.

Prosecutors say the death investigation revealed that the child had been deceased for an extended period of time before the arrival of first responders.

Investigators allege that Phillips had left the infant strapped in a car seat for upwards of 13 hours.

“The infant was cold, blue, and limp. Further investigation revealed the infant had not been fed in approximately fourteen hours and the infant was wearing a soiled diaper,” said Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.

An autopsy was performed, and the probable diagnosis of death was positional asphyxia, Deddens added.

Phillips was arrested on Tuesday and had her initial court appearance on Wednesday morning.
