(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – There will be a Southeast Indiana native representing the United States in the 2024 Olympics.
Lawrenceburg grad Mason Parris secured a spot on Team USA during the Olympic trials in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday.
The 24-year-old will compete in the heavyweight division in Paris. He defeated Hayden Zilmer in the 125 kg class to secure his roster spot.
“I think the universe aligned perfectly for me,” Parris told reporters. “I’m 24 years old. It’s 2024. Parris in Paris. There can’t be anything better than that.”
After wrestling for Lawrenceburg, Parris had a historic career at the University of Michigan before winning back-to-back gold medals for Team USA at the Pan American Games.
The 2024 Olympics begin on July 26.
