(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- Lawrenceburg police are ramping up efforts to address speeding this month.
They're partnering with other law enforcement agencies to raise awareness about the importance of following the speed limit.
Lawrenceburg police say they will be on high alert for speeding until July 31 as part of the 'Speeding Slows You Down' campaign.
“Speed limit signs are not suggestions, they are the law,” said Lawrenceburg Police Assistant Chief Brian Miller. “They are posted for the safety of the driver and others. Unfortunately, we see people speeding every day. If you’re killed in a crash, or if you kill someone else, that’s it – there’s no second chance. Speeding just isn’t worth the risk,” said Miller.
Preliminary data shows that speeding killed 290 people in Indiana last year with nearly 300 fatalities projected in 2023, police said.
