Lawrenceburg's Parris earns his first World's medal

Parris defeated a wrestler in Serbia to earn bronze

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- Lawrenceburg native Mason Parris won a bronze medal during the Senior World Championships in Serbia on Sunday.

It was his first appearance in the World Championships and he had a dominate 12-2 victory to earn bronze in the 125kg men's freestyle.

The performance qualifies him for a possible spot on the U.S. team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In his final season at Michigan, Parris went 33-0 and won the NCAA heavyweight title and was named Michigan's first-ever recipient of the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy, presented annually to the nation's most dominant wrestler.

He completed his collegiate career with a 124-18 record, ranking 15th in Michigan program history.
