Reminding citizens to keep an eye on controlled fires
(LETTS, Ind.) – The recent dry conditions may have led a controlled burn becoming uncontrollable on Wednesday afternoon.
Around 2:10 p.m., Letts firefighters responded to a brush fire in the area of State Road 3 and County Road 500 South.
Firefighters say the brush fire was being closely monitored, however the dry conditions and slight wind caused it to become uncontrollable.
Multiple units responded to find a grass pasture field with approximately 2 acres scattered with fire and spreading.
Firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished within about five minutes.
“The past few weeks have been very dry with little rain. Remember to watch any controlled fire very closely as it only takes a few minutes for it to become out of hand,” the department said.
