"I will always be proud to call Rising Sun home"
(RISING SUN, Ind.) – A standout Rising Sun softball player will continue her athletic career at a Division 1 school.
Junior Ryan Works is a catcher who just committed to Ball State University to play softball.
Works began her softball journey at 7-years-old and quickly fell in love with not only playing, but also watching the game.
“After playing a few years and starting to travel, it soon became an obsession for me and I realized pretty quickly that I wanted to be one of those players that I was watching on TV,” Works told The 812.
She credits her family for the sacrifices they’ve made to allow her to reach her dream. Ryan also thanks her coaches and teammates for the support they’ve shown along the way.
“I would not be here and not be the person I am, without them,” she said.
Ryan helped lead the Shiners to a historic season this past spring where they advanced all the way to the Semi-State. She will never forget the support shown from the community during the tournament.
“I also feel like I owe so much to my small town and the support they give all of our school athletes.”
“I will always cherish the memory of my entire town coming out to support our softball team last season and I will always be proud to call Rising Sun home,” she said.
Playing Division 1 softball has been a lifelong dream and she says Ball State is the perfect fit.
She plans to major in sports administration and her long-term goal is to one day be a coach herself.
Ryan added, “Without my faith, I would never have gotten through the highs and lows of the last ten years that got me to this point.
