Man attempts to rape Lawrenceburg woman who was mowing grass, prosecutor says

"He is facing the highest level of felony for his alleged actions"

Sergio Marroquin Crisostomo

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- A woman was mowing grass when a man attempted to pull her into a garage and rape her in Lawrenceburg, according to the Dearborn County Prosecutor's Office.

27-year-old Sergio Marroquin Crisostomo has been charged Attempted Rape, Criminal Confinement with a Deadly Weapon, Battery and Strangulation.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday when Marroquin Crisostomo allegedly approached the victim while she was mowing. He grabbed her and pulled in her into a garage as she was pleading for him to stop, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Inside the garage, the suspect threatened her with a knife, even cutting her pants while pulling his pants down in an attempt to rape her, the prosecutor said.

The victim was eventually able to push him away, ran outside, and locked herself in a car. She later escaped to a neighbors house where she could get help. The neighbor gave the victim a blanket because her clothes were not on her, officials said.

"All of this occurred in daylight, in Lawrenceburg. He is facing the highest level of felony for his alleged actions," said Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.

Lawrenceburg police learned that a person matching the description of the suspect was in the area of George Street a few days prior. Officers located a family member of Marroguin Crisostomo and were able to get his cell phone number.

They were able to "ping" his cell phone and located and arrested him near Hollywood Casino and U.S. 50.
