Man killed in alleged drunk driving crash in Jennings County

U.S. 50 was closed for more than 4 hours on Monday

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – One man was killed and another was arrested following a two-vehicle crash in Jennings County on Monday night.

It happened around 9 p.m. near Brush Creek Elementary School and U.S. 50 was closed for more than four hours as a result.

44-year-old Anthony Lucas, of North Vernon sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as 41-year-old James Pittman, of North Vernon.

Investigators say Pittman displayed signs of intoxication and arrested on a preliminary charge of OWI Causing Death.

Jennings County deputy Cody Low says this serves as an example of the dangers of drunk driving.

"This tragedy is a reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving and failing to wear your seatbelt. We urge everyone to make responsible decisions and ensure our roads remain safe." said Low.
