Suspect receives close to max sentence
(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A Lawrenceburg woman was mowing her grass when she was forced into her garage during an attempted rape this summer, according to police.
The victim was able to escape from the garage and run to a neighbor’s house for help.
28-year-old Sergio Marroquin Crisostomo was arrested and charged with attempted rape.
Crisostomo pleaded guilty and was facing a sentence between 20 and 40 years.
On Wednesday, Dearborn County Judge Aaron Negangard sentenced Crisostomo to 38 years in prison.
"The bravery exhibited by the victim in this case was astounding. Her presence of mind she possessed in defending herself against Crisostomo, along with giving law enforcement a description of her assailant was remarkable," said Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.
"She is a survivor and I hope that this sentence allows her the process to heal. The Lawrenceburg Police did a great job in gathering evidence and quickly apprehending the Defendant which secured the conviction," Deddens added.
