Happened on Main Street near 8th Street
(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- A 57-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Brookville.
The incident occurred on Main Street near the Brookville Fraternal of Eagles building around 9:20 p.m. Friday.
Franklin County deputies say Phillip Banks, of Brookville, was walking in the crosswalk on Main Street when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was a 16-year-old girl from Brookville.
"A witness reported that he had activated the warning light at the crosswalk. However, Banks was already in the crosswalk," said Franklin County deputy Jason Lovins.
The young driver told deputies that she attempted to swerve, but was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.
Banks was flown by Stat Flight medical helicopter to a Cincinnati hospital for treatment of potential head, arm and leg injuries.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Brookville Volunteer Fire
Department and Franklin County E.M.S.
