(MILAN, Ind.) -- The Milan High School class of 1977 held a unique class reunion in October.
While getting together with former classmates, the purpose of the reunion was to also give back to their alma mater.
Organizer Mike Schmidt spoke with the band director and found out the band needed new uniform hats, as the current ones were over 20 years old.
Through the reunion and another fundraiser, more than $5,000 was raised to fund new hats.
Mike Schmidt tells us, “It was an honor to do this. We’ll be proud for years to come. It is good to help the school even after we have been out for so many years.”
It wasn’t easy for the class to make this donation and it was a long road to get there. Luckily for Milan, they were persistent and made it happen.
The class presented their donation to the Milan School Board during the January meeting.
On top of their donation to the band, the Class of 1977 also made a donation of $1,000 to Milan Elementary for their lunch program.
“And, you know, there is always a need for the children whose family is struggling,” says superintendent Pat Murphy.
Milan Schools knows that these hats will last for many years to come and hopes that the community will continue to support them as the years pass.
