Updated: Sep 11, 2023

Col. Canfield Boone graduated in 1966

(MILAN, Ind.) -- Milan High School is remembering one of their own on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11.

Col. Canfield "Buddy" Boone was killed when a plane slammed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Born and raised in Milan, Boone graduated from MHS in 1966 and went on to earn a major in history and political science at Butler University in Indianapolis, where he met his wife.

During the Vietnam War, Boone signed up for the National Guard, doing weekend drills and a couple weekends every summer.

He served in the Army for 31 years and his family received the Legion of Merit Award, the Purple Heart, the State of Indiana Distinguished Service Medal, the Cold War Certificate and the Honorable Service Certificate during his funeral.

Milan High School placed flowers at a brick paver that honors the Col. Boone on Monday.
