(MILAN Ind.) — The Greensburg Fire Department invited Ethan DeHamer to shadow them for the day on Tuesday.
DeHamer attends Milan High School, and while the junior class takes the state-mandated SAT test, DeHamer, along with many other seniors from Milan attended a college visit or a job shadow.
DeHamer attends the career center’s firefighting class, and knows that he wants to have a career as a firefighter. He has family on the Greensburg Fire Department as the deputy chief and this was an opportunity for him to get the insights on the firefighting profession.
“This day of learning what I want to do means a lot to me,” he said.
DeHamer was able to see a day on the job in real time and see all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into being a firefighter.
DeHamer recently signed onto Saint Mary of the Woods College to continue his track and field career. With the help of the career day, and Milan High School’s support, DeHamer was able to ensure his future.
”And finally my favorite part was operating the ladder truck! It was so fun moving all the levers and seeing how everything operates,” DeHamer tells us.
This opportunity has opened many doors for DeHamer, especially because it helped him to decide what he wants to do for his future career. Milan High School seniors have been able to use this day as a way to explore their career options and Ethan DeHamer is a great example of this.
