Milan teen qualifies for Strongman Nationals

Johnson won his first ever Strongman competition

(DAYTON, KY) -- A Milan High School senior competed in a U.S. Strongman competition for the first time ever this weekend.

17-year-old Mason Johnson left his mark during his debut at the Strongman-sanctioned event in Northern Kentucky.

He competed in the Teen Men's Heavyweight division, which consisted of dumbbell reps, a deadlift, sandbag medley, Saxon hold and stone lifts.

"On dumbbells, he got 8 reps in 60 seconds, pulled 595 for an easy single on deadlift , got 22 seconds in the sandbag medley, got 1:05 in the Saxon hold, and then got all 10 stones going from 100-170 in 49 seconds," his mother, Katie, told The 812.

He won four of five competitions and qualified for the U.S. Strongman Nationals in Colorado this summer.

The Milan football player hasn't graduated yet but his name is already etched into the record books at Milan High School.

He currently holds the all-time squat record in two different weight classes, along with the all-time power clean record for the 240-pound class.

Johnson has found a passion for competitive lifting and plans to enter more competitions after he graduates.
