Has served on department for 46 years
(INDIANAPOLIS) – A longtime volunteer firefighter is being recognized statewide for his leadership and commitment to serving his community.
Ed Scheele was awarded the Ivan Nevil Fire Service Leadership Award during the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association (IVFA) conference in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
Scheele has served on the Morris Volunteer Fire Department for 46 years and held the role of Fire Chief for five years.
The award means a lot to Scheele as he personally knew Ivan Nevil, who served various roles including Indiana State Fire Marshal prior to his passing in 2011.
Scheele’s family knew about the award but kept it secret from Ed.
“This was a complete surprise and I never dreamt of getting this award, I guess everybody in my family knew about it except me,” Scheele said.
Scheele is 73-years-old and remains an active member of the Morris Volunteer Fire Department.
