Mount Carmel School recognized at State House

Honored for 3rd grade reading proficiency

(INDIANAPOLIS) -- Mount Carmel School got some special recognition at the Indiana State House on Thursday.


Dr. Katie Jenner, who serves as Indiana's Secretary of Education, recognized the Franklin County school for their success at third grade reading proficiently. 


Mount Carmel is one of 242 schools to achieve Indiana’s literacy goal of 95 percent.


Last year, every third grader at Mount Carmel passed the IREAD.


The award was accepted by Franklin County Superintendent Tammy Chavis, Mount Carmel Principal Beth Lake and third-grade teacher Chelsea Siedling.
