New roadside stand in downtown Greendale is a hit

Operates on the honor system

(GREENDALE, Ind.) – You typically see roadside produce stands in rural areas, but Patti Louks had an idea for her home right in the heart of Greendale.

She says her idea was spurred by Kara and Ryan Goode who started The Flower Cart just one street over on Dejerus Lane last year.

Louks approached the City of Greendale to see if it would be possible to have a seasonal roadside stand in her front yard on Oakey Avenue each year.

She was given the green light and that is when “The Stand” was born. Her husband, Billy, built the stand, and it opened back in May.

Since then, there has been an incredible turnout of people from within the community and beyond, with some traveling as far away as Dillsboro and Rising Sun.

“I am humbled and blessed that it has gotten this popular and it seems like my cobblers for one have gotten pretty famous themselves around here” she told The 812.

The Stand has items from the community garden, along with baked goods, fresh eggs, bath and body items, simmer pots, handmade teas, herbs, things for kids, and more. Patti said she is always adding new items to give everyone a constant variety, and many people have become regulars.

How do you pay for the items? It’s all through the honor system! You can make your purchase through Venmo or Zelle, or leave cash in the box located right on The Stand.

It’s open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to dark, and sometimes she will open on a weekday, just depends on what’s going on around town.

She plans to stay open every weekend until sometime in November, dependent on colder weather. Stay up to date with her offerings and posts by giving them a follow by clicking here.

Here are a few items you might find the next time you visit the roadside stand, which is located at 35 Oakey Avenue.
