North Vernon man dies while in police custody

ISP conducting independent investigation

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – The North Vernon Police Department is reaching out to the Indiana State Police to conduct an investigation into the death of a man while he was in police custody.

North Vernon officers responded to a domestic incident at a home on Hoosier Street early Friday morning. 

41-year-old Timothy Fugate was taken to the hospital for a medical examination, police said. 

During the transport, Fugate suffered a medical episode and became unresponsive. Life-saving efforts were initiated, however, Fugate passed away. 

North Vernon PD contacted ISP detectives to do an independent investigation.
