Rain possible this weekend
(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – Local fire departments are urging community members to use extra caution while burning this week.
The abnormally dry conditions increase the possibility of fires getting out of control.
Just last week, firefighters in Decatur County were dispatched to a controlled brush burn that quickly turned into a more serious matter. You can read that story here.
This week, Franklin County commissioners are reminding their citizens to be aware of the increased risk.
“Nobody wants to lose their home, business, or crops because of a careless cigarette thrown from a moving car or out of control burning,” Franklin County officials said.
You’re encouraged to have a fire extinguisher or hose nearby this week, or what would be better, is using a burn barrel with a wire mesh top.
“If possible, wait until next week to burn, as we are expecting some rain this weekend,” officials added.
