Out-of-town couple has baby in Decatur County on New Year's

First baby born in Decatur County in 2024

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Decatur County Memorial Hospital is celebrating their first baby born in 2024, and it came as a surprise to the couple!

Emily and Luke Sweet are from western Indiana and were visiting Decatur County over the New Year's holiday.

The young couple didn't expect to have their baby on the trip, but mother nature had other plans and the baby decided to come earlier than expected.

The couple went to Decatur County Memorial Hospital and Carolyn Sweet was born on January 1.

To mark the occasion, the hospital gave the family a hand-made blanket, diaper bag filled with items and some clothing for the new baby.

For expecting mothers, DCMH offers Childbirth Education classes. These classes are offered at no charge.
