Pacers finish sixth at JCD Invitational

Submitted by Tye Sullivan

(OSGOOD, Ind.) -- The Pacer Cross Country team competed in the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational on Saturday morning and came away with a 6th place finish (156 pts) in the 11 team event.

The Milan Indians won the boys event with a team score of 22, followed by Hagerstown (84pts) and South Ripley (95pts).

Ty Lay used his strength and speed to lead the team in 22nd place overall and a new PR of 19:04.

“I couldn’t be happier with the effort we are seeing out of Ty Lay right now, the hard work that he puts in during practice carried over into the race this morning,” says Pacer coach Tye Sullivan.

“When you have someone like Ty on the team that is a 100m sprinter you know that no one will beat him at the finish, but right now the strongest part of his race is between mile one and mile two,” says Sullivan. “Ty is just able to find another gear at the midpoint of the race and is able to push himself and his teammates through to the finish.”

Lay led a pack of Pacers across the finish line, followed closely by Sophomores Luke Sullivan in 19:06 (24th) and Cale Collier 19:11 (25th). All three were recognized at the conclusion of the meet as top 25 overall finishishers in the field of 74 total participants.

Rounding out the scoring for the Pacers were Gavin Rich and Dylan Sullivan, both crossing the finish line with season best efforts of 20:22 (42nd) and 20:57 (54th), respectively. Freshman Harlowe Haines finished in 26:31 (72nd) to cap off a great team effort by the Pacers.

“The boys race was very competitive today and we faced a few teams today that will send either full teams or individuals deep into the state tournament next month, so it was great to see our guys compete at a high level and three of our top five walked away with new PR’s,” says Sullivan.

Next up for the Pacers is a home meet on Tuesday night versus Milan and Shawe Memorial. The race is slated to begin at 6pm.
