(PATRIOT, Ind.) -- It's not everyday that you could see a pink flamingo roaming around Southeast Indiana.

Some anglers in Switzerland County spotted the rare birds while fishing on the Ohio River near Patriot on Friday.

It's the latest sighting in some unlikely northern states this week. Pink flamingos have also been seen in Virginia, Texas and Ohio.

Officials say the distinctive birds have come north after being blown in by Hurricane Idalia which hit Florida last week.

Experts say it is extremely rare to spot a pink flamingo in Indiana. The bird is typically found in areas such as Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico and South America.
