Police: Man tried to take officers gun, had meth during traffic stop

Incident happened at Ludlow Hill Park

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – An Aurora man allegedly tried to take a gun from a police officer during a traffic stop.

51-year-old Lance Davidson was pulled over by Lawrenceburg police officer Luke Gentry for an improper license plate in Ludlow Hill Park on Sunday, June 23.

During the traffic stop, Davidson was asked to exit the vehicle but allegedly said, “No I ain’t gonna do it.”

Additional officers arrived and attempted to remove him from the vehicle.

“He shouted at them multiple times to kill himand punched and swung at the officers. Officer Gentry then tazed Davidson but was unable to gain compliance,” Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said.

Police say Davidson then tried to grab for an officer’s gun before he was pinned down on the ground. One of the officers noticed another gun under Davidson and were able to remove it before placing him under arrest.

According to the prosecutor, a search of the vehicle resulted in 22 grams what is believed to be methamphetamine, paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.

“As he was being booked into the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center, an additional substance believed to be methamphetamine was located on Davidson's person,” Deddens added.

Davidson has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer, Battery on a Public Safety Official, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
