Retired mailman, veteran wishes for cards on 90th birthday

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

Melvin Paul walked the same mail route for 25 years

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) -- A longtime mailman from Oldenburg will celebrate his 90th birthday this Friday, October 20.

Melvin "Metz" Paul delivered mail in the Cincinnati suburb of Groesbeck for 25 years. Paul would drive from Oldenburg to Groesbeck to carry mail on the same 8-mile walking route everyday until he retired in 1990.

With a milestone birthday approaching, his family wants to surprise the former mailman!

He enjoys getting cards and the family hopes he receives a few more than he expects to.

Would you like to send him a birthday card? His address is 23115 Hamburg Road in Oldenburg, Indiana 47036.

Melvin says he plans to live to at least 100-years-old so he'll have plenty of time to read the cards!

He graduated from Batesville High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army for two years.

Melvin and his wife, Marceda, better known as "Skeeter", have been married for more than 65 years and have four children, plus several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He has been heavily-involved in Oldenburg for many years. Melvin was among the first Freudenfest committee members, was a member of the Oldenburg Bowling League for 63 years and also coached little league baseball.

Melvin and Marceda continue to serve on the Holy Family Church bereavement committee.
