Ripley Co. deputy battling cancer honored at Biggin’ Bash

Received award from local military veterans

(FRIENDSHIP, Ind.) – A longtime Ripley County deputy was honored by a group of military veterans during Biggin’ Bash on Saturday.

Biggin Bash was started by Brian ‘Biggin’ Noble and the annual event is a big party in Friendship that also gives back to local veterans and firefighters.

Before the party began, the National Anthem was performed and there was an awards ceremony to recognize those who show patriotism and strength in Southeast Indiana.

One of the organizations involved is the Southeast Indiana Honor Guard which PG Gentrup is a member of.

A few months ago, PG asked Noble who they should honor this year.

Noble said, “Can you recognize Ripley County Lieutenant R.L. Holt?”

PG responded,  “Let me put something together and send it to you. Biggin read what I wrote  and sent a new version back on what the plaque should say.”

Randy Holt has served as a deputy for the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years and is currently battling cancer.

The longtime deputy attended Biggin’ Bash and was presented with the “American Patriot Fighter Award” during the opening ceremony.

Holt received the award from the Southeast Indiana Honor Guard and the Aurora-based Vietnam Veterans of America, Larry D. Fogle Chapter 71 organization.

“This year’s prestigious award is presented to a recipient who depicts law enforcement at its finest and honors an individual who has led a valiant fight from the front line in the face of overwhelming odds,” the plaque reads.

During the awards ceremony, the military veterans also presented a plaque to Brian Noble’s  wife, Amanda, who is also battling cancer.
