The teenagers are going all-in on the project this summer
(RISING SUN, Ind.) -- Young artists are using their creativity to bring positive messages to senior citizens in Rising Sun.
Unique murals and artwork line the hallways at Rising Sun Senior Housing.
That's because high schoolers have been putting their artistic talents to good use the past two summers.
It all started with a simple goal of bringing the youth and senior citizens together.
The senior center applied and received a grant for artwork. And they reached out to the school.
Rising Sun art teacher Amberly King responded. She gave students the green light to use their creativity and come up with their own designs.
The teens created multiple murals through every hallway last summer.
But why stop there?
Tammy Johns, who serves as grant manager at Rising Sun Senior Housing, came up with an idea to bring students back this summer. And the art teacher said yes.
This summer, high schoolers are designing murals on the doorways of residents.
"It's something that we want to leave as a tribute to the senior citizens where they can look at something and it can change their world for a day, and give them something to smile about," Johns told The 812.
