(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – Jennings County Avenue of Flags is an organization that places American Flags around the county during holidays.
The flags are currently on display for the Labor Day holiday.
Tom Moore, who oversees the program, likely didn’t expect what happened this weekend.
A Jennings County deputy was patrolling the area of U.S. 50 and the West Roundabout around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
The deputy says he saw a man remove a flag that was on display and placed it in a jeep.
A traffic stop was conducted and the passenger admitted to stealing the flag, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was identified as Corey Tyler Covington-Ernstes and he was arrested for theft.
Moore says there have been more than 20 flags stolen from Jennings County Avenue of Flags this year.
The program also places flags on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4, September 11 and Veterans Day.
