(AURORA, Ind.) -- The Knights fought hard to a 2-2 tie vs. the Jennings County Panthers on Monday night.
The evening started with the Knight’s annual SAY Soccer Night where local soccer players, coaches, and families come to the field to be announced and take shots on our high school keepers! It was a great celebration of local soccer with record attendance this year.
South Dearborn dominated possession and shooting during the game holding possession 60% of the game and taking a whopping 34 shots on goal. However, a few mistakes turned ugly and allowed the Panthers to make good on two of their seven shots taken. The Knights responded to both goals with first a free kick goal by senior Hunter Garland and a second beautiful shot by senior Austyn Tibbs assisted by Nicholas Wismann.
The ball movement by seniors Hunter Garland, Peyton Hill, and Austyn Tibbs was fantastic and fun to watch. The wings, junior Christian Ladner and sophomores Louis Cesene and Nicholas Wismann along with senior forward Brodie Teke also helped move the ball beautifully to the goal many times. Although the Knights struggled to finish, getting into the Panthers’ third was a breeze for the most part.
Sophomore Gage Harris was in the goal with three saves and the back line of seniors Easton Schumann and Nakia Scruggs, junior Camdyn Dausch, and sophomore Dakota Cochran did a great job of stopping most of the Jennings County drives.
The JV Knights played a great 1/2 game to a 1-1 tie with freshman Cameron Cheek scoring the Knights’ only goal from and assist by sophomore Jacee Cole.
The Knights face Batesville tonight (8/29) on SD’s Backman Field. JV begins at 5:30pm with Varsity to follow around 7:00pm. It is split the pot night and Teacher Appreciation Night, so come watch South Dearborn Boys Soccer give it all in this epic conference battle!!!
