Fennell applied and was accepted for the NYC parade
(VERSAILLES, Ind.) -- South Ripley's band director will get a once in a lifetime experience in New York City this week.
Ellen Fennell will march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade alongside 400 other band directors from across the country.
She applied and was accepted to be part of the Saluting America's Band Directors program during the parade. She is one of only three Indiana band directors who are getting the opportunity this year.
"I'm extremely excited and honored to get this experience. It means the world to participate in this parade and represent Southeast Indiana," Fennell told The 812.
She has been practicing her music assignment independently and will meet the other band directors in New York City on Sunday. The group will practice together before the parade on November 23.
Fennell is a native of Tipton County, Indiana and has been teaching at South Ripley High School for the past three years.
"Music brings people together and it will be an honor to join these other band directors from all over the United States," Fennell said.
