Took place during game against South Dearborn Tuesday
(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – South Ripley honored two local families during their volleyball game on Tuesday night.
It was called ‘Dig Pink Night’ and it was an opportunity to raise awareness about cancer.
Earlier in the day, the school hosted a pep session that included a game between staff and students. The session raised $450 which was dispersed to local cancer patients.
On Tuesday night, the Raiders wore pink and decorated the gym for the game against South Dearborn.
Prior to the varsity match, the school recognized the family of Sam Copeland who is a 1992 South Ripley graduate.
Copeland was a standout athlete in high school and became a well-known beloved community member.
Sam lost his battle with cancer in August. His wife, Amy, was in attendance for the volleyball game on Tuesday.
The school also honored Julie Boggs, who is a grandmother of students who attend South Ripley.
She is currently fighting a brain tumor that has been deemed as untreatable. Julie is described as a kind, caring person who is maintaining a positive outlook despite the diagnosis.
South Ripley is not the only volleyball squad that hosted a ‘Pink’ game on Tuesday.
Lawrenceburg and South Decatur both had theirs last night, and Milan will host their cancer awareness game tonight, honoring a Milan mom battling breast cancer.
