Special wreath-laying ceremony for Pearl Harbor on December 7

Will take place in Versailles

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – There will be a special wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

It will take place at the Ripley County Courthouse at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 7.

The ceremony is organized by the Ripley County Community Foundation and will kick off the annual Wreaths Across Ripley County program, where wreaths are placed at the graves of local veterans.

“It is your chance to come together as a community and pay tribute to our veterans and their service. We hope to see you there as we remember and honor those who have served,” said RCCF marketing officer Amy Wonnell.

The annual wreath laying at cemeteries will take place on Saturday, December 14.  The initiative is led by local volunteers and groups who raise money to place more than 4,7000 wreaths.

For more information on Wreaths Across Ripley County volunteer opportunities, contact Owen Menchhofer at (812) 756-0160.

Wreaths Across Ripley County is expanding this year to incorporate the TEACH portion of Wreaths Across America.

In early December, junior high students across Ripley County will learn about the 10 attributes American veterans emulate. This program encourages participation from young people who learn valuable lessons about the sacrifices made by veterans and the importance of preserving our freedoms.
