Chapter took a field trip on Tuesday
(HOLTON, Ind.) – South Ripley FFA students got a unique out-of-the-classroom experience on Tuesday.
The chapter went to the Otter Creek Township Fire Department in Holton for agricultural safety demonstrations.
Students learned about propane and anhydrous tank safety, tractor and farm equipment safety, how to stay safe around a PTO shaft, and trailer safety.
The field trip was created after Fire Chief Dale Comer approached South Ripley FFA Advisor Jessie Lovell.
“We met a month ago and brainstormed on ways to bring the fire department and the FFA together,” she said.
Lovell says she hopes the students learned something today and they better understand the dangers around farming and agriculture.
“I also hope it taught them to be courteous of the farmers on the road, and even be willing to pull into a driveway if farm equipment is approaching you,” she added.
