Veterans, community members attended the ceremony
(ST. LEON, Ind.) -- The St. Leon American Legion dedicated their Purple Heart Monument on Saturday, September 2.
Veterans and community members attended the ceremony as the monument was unveiled after a longtime of planning.
Legion members first discussed a Purple Heart monument in 2005 but it recently picked up steam after East Central graduate, Cpl. Kelsee Lainhart, was wounded in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2021.
The monument was made possible by donations from organizations including Maxwell Construction and the Milan American Legion.
At least three Purple Heart recipients attended the ceremony and St. Leon Skyline donated lunch to the attendees.
