South Ripley High School Class of 2023
This week we're celebrating Amy Mitchell who just graduated from South Ripley High School!
Amy was nominated because of her tenacity and determination of not letting Autism hold her back. Amy was diagnosed as a young child, and has flourished inside and outside the classroom throughout her years in school!
Amy thrives at raising money for good causes! Last August, she competed at the annual Special Olympics Firetruck Pull in Lawrenceburg and was awarded "Top Fundraising Individual." She was also the top fundraiser at the 2022 Polar Plunge.
Mitchell has been involved in tons of school and community programs over the years including Band, Drama Club, Unified Bowling, Jobs for America's Graduates, Girls on the Run, Garrett's Gang and Champions Together.
She has also competed in eight different Special Olympic sports including bowling, basketball, snowboarding, swimming, softball, volleyball!
Her mother, Jenny, says, "One organization that has truly gone above and beyond is the Special Olympics. Along with her teachers, friends, classmates, friends and family, she has been able to do so much more than what was ever imagined."
Amy plans to attend the Erskine Green Training Institute this fall. Her next goal is to major in Culinary Studies at Ball State University.
Congratulations, Amy for being an inspiration and representing South Ripley and Southeast Indiana in a great way!
