Sunman Fire hosting 5K Sunday, 9/11 walk Wednesday

Inaugural 5K helps raise funds for the department

(SUNMAN, Ind.) – The Sunman Rural Fire Department is hosting their first-ever 5K on Sunday.

Anyone can participate and all funds benefit the volunteer fire department, allowing them to purchase new equipment and an apparatus.

It will be held at the Sunman American Legion and it will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The cost is $30 per runner and the 5K will go through the town of Sunman.

The fire department is also hosting their September 11 memorial walk through town on Wednesday. It’s the agency’s way of honoring the 343 firefighters who gave their lives during the terror attacks 2001.

Firefighters walk 3.43 miles in full turnout gear and it is open to the public.

Community members are asked to meet at the firehouse at 5:30 p.m.
