Suspected DUI driver arrested after car, semi crash

Photos provided by Letts Volunteer Fire Department

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- One person was jailed following a semi and car crash in Decatur County Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at the intersection of State Road 3 and County Road 500 South around 5:20 a.m.

Letts volunteer firefighters say the driver of the car drove through a stop sign and struck the semi.

It ruptured the semi's fuel tank before the car collided with the empty grain trailer, firefighters added.

"The semi driver went off the road momentarily. However, due to his professional driving abilities, he was able to maintain control of the semi and bring it back to the roadway and maintain his lane before getting stopped," the Letts Fire Department said.

The road was closed for nearly three hours due to the cleanup.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to the fire department.

Officials added that the semi driver was not hurt and the driver of the car refused medical treatment.

Several agencies worked the scene including Burney Fire, Greensburg Fire, Decatur County EMS, police officers and TDS Heavy wrecker and recovery.
