Greensburg nursing home asking for donations for surgery
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Residents of a nursing home in Greensburg are hoping the community can rally behind their service animal.
Hickory Creek’s therapy dog, named Molly, has been at the facility since she was a puppy and is now 7-years-old.
“She loves to walk around the building visiting our residents in their rooms and hunting for snacks. Our residents look forward to her daily room visits and giving her belly rubs,” Hickory Creek Executive Director Brooke Thies said.
Molly recently lost nearly all her vision after developing cataracts, which has caused her to spend less time with the residents.
“Overall, her mood has changed and she simply isn't her normal self,” Thies said.
The dog has qualified for surgery to have the majority of her eyesight restored, however, it comes at a cost of $6,500.
The nursing home has established a fundraiser in an effort to help Molly, and therefore help the residents who depend on her as a therapy dog.
Also, the nursing home does not own the dog. Their parent corporation allows them to have a therapy dog at the property for residents and staff.
