(ST. LEON, Ind.) – East Central sophomore Audrey Baumgardner wasn’t supposed to make it this far.
At the beginning of the season, nobody expected her to reach the IHSAA Girls Swimming State Finals.
She shocked herself and others when she won the 50-yard freestyle competition this past weekend to qualify for state.
Coaches say her rapid success is due to both talent and a strong work ethic.
East Central will also be represented by junior Bree Cleary who will compete in diving.
Cleary made it to state last year and qualified for the finals this past Tuesday during Diving Regionals in Jasper.
The 812 will keep track of Baumgardner and Cleary’s competitions and let you know how they finish. Baumgardner’s competition is Friday night and Cleary competes on Saturday.
