Taken to rehab facility
(NEW POINT, Ind.) – This is an update to a story we published regarding a bald eagle being found on I-74 on July 4.
ISP Trooper Jason Hankins protected the eagle from oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes.
The incident eventually involved Decatur County Deputies Robert Goodfellow, Patrick Richards and a friend of theirs who helped get the Bald Eagle safely off the interstate and to a local rehab facility.
The rescue some-what went as planned and the juvenile Bald Eagle, now named Pete, was secured in a crate and was placed in the back of a Decatur County patrol truck.
It was then taken to the Indiana Raptor Center in Nashville, Indiana.
While driving over to the center, a friend told the two deputies, “What a memory this will make, 2 combat veterans save an American icon, on one of the most important days in American history.”
The Indiana Raptor Center confirmed that Pete is a male, juvenile American Bald Eagle. They will provide updates on his status on their Facebook page.
