Chief credits annual training for a successful outcome
(NAPOLEON, Ind.) – A local farmer is safe after an incident in a grain bin on Thursday afternoon.
It happened at a farm on U.S. 421 near Napoleon around 12 p.m.
Firefighters were on the scene for several hours as Napoleon Chief Steve Meyer said it was a difficult scenario to free the farmer.
The farmer was removed from the grain bin and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Several area fire departments practice grain bin rescues annually including Napoleon. Chief Meyer says the training hours is worth it when it comes to saving lives.
“Just to know these volunteer firefighters are ready to go when the tones go off for any incident. We had a lot of guys show up today, and they show up for trainings. It’s worth every bit of it when we can save a life and keep somebody breathing,” said Meyer.
Napoleon was assisted by Osgood and Batesville Fire, along with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Osgood Police and Ripley County EMS
