Delaware Fire honors firefighter who passed away in December

Presented family with gift

(DELAWARE, Ind.) – The Delaware Volunteer Fire Department honored one of their own on Monday night.

48-year-old Jarred Meinders, of Milan, passed away unexpectedly in late December.

He was a 28-year member of the Delaware Volunteer Fire Department and was on Batesville Fire & Rescue for the past 14 years.

On Monday, Delaware firefighters officially retired his Firefighter Number of 1318.

The department presented his family with a shadow box with his firefighter turnout gear.

Chief Ronnie Bushhorn said, “We didn’t even wash it, we wanted it to be just as it was the last time Jarred wore it.”
